Fashion Meets Flowers: Lakeside Joondalup event puts flower power on display

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

SPRING blooms will fill the fashion mall at Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City this Thursday for the inaugural Fashion Meets Flowers event.

The spring shopping day will feature an installation of more than 800 handmade paper flowers interspersed with twinkling lights and suspended willow branches.

Created by artists Marina Lommerse and Hayley Curnow, the concept for the installation was developed from The Language of Flowers – an urban artwork that was part of FORM’s prototyping festival, PUBLIC Platform.

Curnow said the installation, which includes tags identifying the meanings of flower varieties, would encourage the public to engage in the art of floriography.

“Floriography is the use or arrangement of flowers to express coded messages. For hundreds of years, fashion has drawn from the beauty and femininity of flowers, so we’re looking forward to exploring that more at Lakeside Joondalup,” she said.

Fashion Meets Flowers will run from 9am to 9pm but the installation will remain until the end of the month.
