Father allegedly assaults autistic son in Perth’s north

A WOODVALE father has this month been accused of beating his autistic son with a broom handle in Perth’s north.

Police charged the man (45) with four counts of aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of common assault.

Senior Sergeant Brad Burnett alleged the father struck his 10-year-old son, who lives with his mother, on the back of his legs while the boy was visiting his home on February 9.

It is further alleged he struck the boy’s bare feet.

On another occasion, he allegedly hit his son in the right shin and forcefully clenched his face, causing swelling.

Police charged the man on February 15.

Sen-Sgt Burnett said the man was placed under strict protective conditions and the boy remained in his mother’s custody.
