Federal funding urged for residential aged care

Staff WriterJoondalup Times

MOORE MHR Ian Goodenough has highlighted in Federal Parliament the growing need to increase funding for residential aged care and home care services in the northern suburbs.

He said as the population is ageing, there is a level of unmet need and families are being faced with long waiting lists.

Currently $31.6 million is allocated to fund 581 residential aged care places in the Moore electorate but he said it fell short of the national 2020-21 target of 78 operational residential care places for every 1000 people aged 70 years and over.

However, he said progress was being made with 260 new residential care places allocated to Moore, with 140 places at Aegis Joondalup and 120 at Opal Joondalup.
