A PROJECT that includes a fitness staircase similar to Jacob’s Ladder is on the up after the Federal Government today announced it would contribute $500,000.

The funding, announced by Moore MHR Ian Goodenough, will go towards the construction of a health and wellbeing hub at Whitfords Nodes Park in Hillarys, which will also include fitness equipment, running tracks and upgraded play and park equipment.

The project is expected to cost about $2 million, with this funding announcement following a Lotterywest grant of $719,266.

Sport Minister Bridget Mckenzie said the government understood the country’s success as a sporting nation started with grassroots sports.

“This is why we have focused our investment on local grassroots sporting facilities such as the Whitfords Nodes health and wellbeing hub,” she said.

Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said the project was eagerly-anticipated by the local and wider community, with construction to start in the 2019/20 financial year.
