FIRE crews were still dampening down hot spots on Monday morning after battling one of Perth’s biggest house fires overnight.

More than 40 firefighters took about two hours to put out the blaze in Marjorie Street, Mullaloo, which started about 6.30pm on Sunday and caused $2.2 million damage to the home.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said a downlight may have been the cause.

DFES fought to prevent it from spreading to neighbouring homes and power remains out in the area.

It is understood the home’s residents escaped unharmed.

One neighbour told Community News he did not know the residents but had been concerned last night about them and his friend living behind the blaze.

Fire crews came from Duncraig, Joondalup, Osborne Park, Wangara, Wanneroo and Midland.

Police responded to the fire as an “urgent property fire”.
