DUBBED the largest fishing competition in WA, the Blue Water Classic will hook northern suburbs anglers on February 16.

Hosted by the Marmion Angling and Aquatic Club, the competition was first held in 1985 and attracts about 700 competitors fishing for prizes worth more than $42,000.

The boat-only event, which is the club’s only competition where non-members can take part, will see anglers launch from either Hillarys or Ocean Reef marinas, with the competition running from 6am to 3pm.

Anglers can enter one fish of each of the 12 listed species to be weighed: whiting, herring, break sea cod, baldchin groper, tailor, flathead, dhufish, harlequin, skipjack, pink snapper, king george whiting and queen snapper.
