Fitzme Plus Size Active Wear: trio of friends to give exercise gear a big plus

Laura PondJoondalup Times

THREE friends are about to launch their active-wear range catering to plus-size women.

Nicky Hill and Tamara Sanders of Craigie and Woodvale’s Deb Ballarine have been busily working on creating clothing for Fitzme Plus Size Active Wear for the past year.

Ms Hill has worked in the fitness industry for 16 years and said she had long noticed a lack of active wear for women over size 16. “I’ve seen women not feeling confident going into the group fitness room or gym,” she said.

After more research, she found “huge demand” for plus size fitness clothing and the trio decided to make their own.

“We realised it was something really really needed,” she said.

They searched extensively to find suitable material and eventually teamed with a Leeming-based manufacturer.

“Our biggest challenge was to find the right material with utmost quality and durability,” Ms Hill said.

“It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster but a rollercoaster of fun.

“It was hard but not at one point did we go, ‘this isn’t worth it’.”

The debut range includes leggings, singlets and mesh tops from sizes 14 to 24 that are designed to enhance fuller figures.
