WA Police have charged five men after a Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC) report into corrupt activity at the North Metropolitan Health Service.

A special taskforce, Operation Highland, was set up shortly after the CCC report was tabled in State Parliament in August last year.

“Since September, Operation Highland has been investigating bribery and corruption in maintenance and service contracts within the NMHS which went undetected for the best part of a decade,” Serious and Organised Crime Division Acting Inspector Paul Matthews said.

A 44-year-old Mt Hawthorn man, a 68-year-old from North Beach and a 74-year-old man from Parkerville were charged with acting corruptly in the performance and discharge of functions.

A 53-year-old man from Cardup has been charged with 12 counts of gaining benefit by fraud, four counts of disclosing restricted matter, willfully destroying evidence and acting corruptly in the performance and discharge of functions.
