FORMER Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard has pleaded not guilty in Joondalup Magistrates Court to assaulting his neighbour in Kingsley.

Mr Pickard appeared before Magistrate Deen Potter this afternoon on a charge of unlawfully assaulting Mark James Wild on January 14.

The matter is set to go to trial on September 10.

Mr Pickard is on protective bail conditions, which prevent him going near Mr Wild or his family.

He addressed reporters outside court, thanking his supporters and welcoming the opportunity to have his side of the story heard at trial.

“I also look forward to Mark Wild taking the stand and being forensically interrogated by one of West Australia’s leading criminal lawyers Terry Dobson,” he said.

He said he would make no further comment on the matter while it was before court.
