THE Joondalup War Memorial’s latest graffiti vandals could be picked up through the area’s security cameras.

Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said the City would work with police and give them access to its CCTV images.

“This is a very disappointing and frustrating incident,” he said of the graffiti writing scrawled over the memorial in Central Park.

The graffiti was reported to the City of Joondalup late yesterday afternoon and the City’s contractor removed it this morning.

“The City has a rapid graffiti removal and paint-out service,” he said.

It is not the first time the war memorial has been targeted with graffiti. Nearly four years ago it was defaced.

Mr Jacob encouraged residents seeing anti-social behaviour to call police on 131 444 or City rangers on 1300 655 860.

He said people finding graffiti on public or private property could report it on the City’s website (joondalup.wa.gov.au), call graffiti control on 9400 4528 or City Rangers after hours on 1300 655 860.

“Making an immediate report enables the City to commence the process of removing the graffiti as soon as possible,” he said.

“The City is involved in a number of strategies to address the issue of inappropriate behaviour such as the use of CCTV throughout Central Park.

“The City will also continue to work with WA Police in supporting their enforcement efforts with graffiti information, tag profiles, digital photos and CCTV images, where applicable.”
