Grant buys lifesaving club a new vehicle

The club was successful in its application for the first round of the Stronger Communities Program, which is open to local governments or incorporated non-profit groups.

It will use the $18,411 grant to replace its four-wheel-drive vehicle.

“The club identified the requirements in a vehicle to safely deliver our core services of life saving, community education and surf sports,” business director Christine Cougan said.

“Then, working closely with long-term sponsor Wild West Hyundai, a suitable vehicle was identified to fill these requirements.”

Grants were also awarded for refurbishments at Padbury Community Kindergarten ($20,000) and the Guy Daniel Clubroom in Heathridge ($19,725), a bike skills track at Shepherds Bush Park in Kingsley ($20,000) and to upgrade public access from Mertz Court to Taylor Way in Hillarys.

Moore MHR Ian Goodenough said $150,000 was available in the second round of the Stronger Communities Program. Groups can apply for grants between $5000 and $20,000.

Applicants are required to demonstrate matched funding on a dollar-to-dollar basis. Expressions of interest close March 31.
