THE curtain has come down on another City of Joondalup Music in the Park Concert series.

Soukouss Internationale and Grace Barbe brought the sounds of Africa to Perth’s northern suburbs on Saturday night, attracting more than 7500 music lovers to the free gig at Mawson Park, Hillarys.

Overall attendance for the series was about 14,000 people, following earlier concerts at Penistone Park, Greenwood, and Central Park, Joondalup.

Soukouss Internationale and Grace Barbe proved a hit with music fans of all ages with their combination of psychedelic rock, afrobeat, reggae and pop, pumping afro-Latin rhythms, gorgeous vocal melodies and scorching guitar solos.

The feeling was mutual with both acts enjoying the unique opportunity to play at such a picture-perfect outdoor location.

There were plenty of families in attendance with children taking part in a number of free activities.

Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard said the positive community vibe and family-friendly feel showed just why Mawson Park was often referred to as the spiritual home of this popular annual concert series.

“The combination of these two outstanding musical acts, perfect autumn weather and a great family-friendly atmosphere ensured it was a night to remember for those fortunate enough to have been in attendance,” Mayor Pickard said.

“Later this month the City’s outstanding program of free summer events will conclude with the 2017 Joondalup Festival, which for the first time will be held over three nights and will again attract tens of thousands of people to Joondalup.”
