A STEADY stream of messages haven’t gone unnoticed on the Mitchell Freeway of late.
From Aussie institutions John Farnham and Icehouse to ads for an internet provider and ECU.
They’re all part of the freeway’s latest addition for southbound motorists at Greenwood – a giant electronic billboard.
APN Outdoor installed the “large format digital signboard” for Main Roads, which has responsibility for up to eight proposed sites on its roads over the coming years .
“Subject to the necessary planning approvals, at least one further sign will be installed during 2019,” a Main Roads spokeswoman said.
The Times asked if Main Roads had received feedback on the new installation.
“Nearby residents were engaged in the months prior to construction,” the spokeswoman said. “Any questions or concerns were resolved through face-to-face engagement.
“Advertising content of the digital signs is controlled by the State Government under its current contract with the operator APN Outdoor. APN Outdoor are responsible for attracting the advertisers.”
Money from advertising is put to easing traffic congestion and to safety improvements.
