STUDENTS from a Greenwood school got their hands dirty and tasted secret recipes when they visited a dairy factory.

About 60 Year 3 students from Liwara Catholic Primary School toured the Brownes Dairy facility in Balcatta, where they made curds and whey, milked cows and experimented with yoghurt.

Teacher Paula Dawe said a highlight was when they tasted tested yoghurt.

“The kids got really excited when parents and teachers had to leave the room while they tasted a new product being released soon,” she said.

Mrs Dawe said they were amazed with the factory’s machinery and saw where it all started by milking a cow.

“They learnt how to get the milk from the cow to the table,” she said.

“They really enjoyed (the milking) and just hearing the cow mooing as well because a lot of them would not have been that close to a cow before.

“They were really excited; they left on a big high.”
