GUIDE Dogs WA will be at several screenings of a US documentary as part of this summer’s Lotterywest Films program.

The Perth Festival outdoor movie schedule includes Pick of the Litter, screening at UWA’s Somerville and ECU’s Joondalup Pines theatres over the festive season.

The documentary directed by Don Hardy Jr and Dana Nachman follows five labrador puppies – Phil, Patriot, Potomac, Primrose and Poppet – being trained to become guide dogs.

Film program manager Tom Vincent said it showed “the best of humanity working with the best of the animal world”.

Pick of the Litter will screen at Somerville on December 24 and 26 to 30, and at Joondalup Pines from January 1 to 6.

Staff and volunteers from Guide Dogs WA will be available before and after screenings on December 27, 28 and 29, then January 5 and 6, to discuss the services they provide and ways the community can get involved with the organisation. They will also have some canine ambassadors and dogs in training with them.
