Hillarys: police charge alleged watch thieves

TWO men have been charged over a burglary in which they allegedly smashed display cabinets of several jewellery stores at a Hillarys shopping centre.

A police spokeswoman said the men were accused of forcing entry to the Marmion Avenue building about 4.45am on December 31.

“They allegedly proceeded through the shopping centre smashing windows to gain entry into several jewellery stores where they smashed display cabinets and stole a large amount of watches,” she said.

Investigators charged a 31-year-old Girrawheen man and 33-year-old Alexander Heights man with one count of aggravated burglary with intent, two counts of aggravated burglary and commit and two counts of stealing.

The Girrawheen man is due in Joondalup Magistrates Court on February 12, while the other man is due to appear on January 24.

Police are still looking to recover some of the watches.
