Hoof it to Hillarys beach rally: campaign to keep Whitfords horse beach open steps up

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

THE campaign to keep Hillarys Horse Beach open continues this Saturday with a rally at the Whitfords Avenue beach.

The Save Whitfords Horse Beach Facebook group has organised the rally to show its support for retaining the 160m horse beach.

It follows a Joondalup council decision last month to close the beach to horses, which was initiated in 2010 when councillors voted to phase out the closure over four years.

This is to enable the horse float carpark to be reconfigured to allow for more car bays for dog beach users.

People are encouraged to attend the rally from 10am.

“Bring your horse, bring your kids, bring your family and friends, bring your dogs (on leash), make some banners and show your support for the horse beach,” the Facebook event said.

The council will consider a report on June 28, which recommends the City amend its animals local law for the purpose of public advertising to continue the beach closure process.
