Joondalup Christmas Lunch brings together those alone at Christmas

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

PEOPLE who would otherwise spend Christmas Day alone are invited to the Joondalup Christmas Lunch.

The free annual event on December 25 will be held in the southern part of Central Park in the Joondalup city centre and has grown to become one of the biggest in Perth.

Organised by local church groups and volunteers, and sponsored by the City of Joondalup, it is expected to attract about 500 guests from a variety of backgrounds including the homeless, new arrivals in Australia, people with financial difficulties, those who have lost their partners and those without families.

It will feature a traditional Christmas meal, live entertainment and carols.

Mayor Albert Jacob will again host a table and said he was looking forward to another fun-filled event that for more than a decade has delivered the true nature of Christmas to Joondalup.

“Joondalup Christmas Lunch volunteers take time away from their own celebrations with family and friends to share the Christmas spirit with people who would otherwise be alone on this very special day,” he said.

“The organising committee has worked tirelessly throughout the year to make this event possible and I look forward to renewing some old acquaintances from previous Christmas lunches as well as meeting first-time guests in 2018.”
