Joondalup Festival turning city into playground

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

JOONDALUP will become a playground when the northern corridor’s biggest cultural event returns bigger than ever in April.

The Joondalup Festival will return from April 3-5, bringing the city centre to life with a range of exciting and colourful installations and performances, and this year expanding to include a second licensed space on Boas Avenue and more food trucks.

The theme for 2020 is ‘Make the City Your Playground’ and festival-goers are encouraged to explore the bigger festival site, including a hidden cinema on Davidson Terrace, mermaid tank at the Joondalup Library children’s venue, sideshow alley and secret light installations in the trees at Central Park.

Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said the 22nd Joondalup Festival provided an opportunity for people from across Perth to access to a range of free world-class cultural and artistic events.

“More than two decades into its journey, it continues to amaze me how this free family-friendly cultural event evolves and grows each year.

“If you haven’t been to the festival in a few years it might be time to pay a visit and see just why it has become such an iconic cultural event and an institution for families across the northern corridor and beyond.”

Joondalup Festival was a state finalist at the 2019 Australian Event Awards for best cultural arts event.
