Joondalup Health Campus recreation room makes impression

THOSE who were impressed by the initial artist’s impression of the recreation room at Joondalup Health Campus’ new paediatrics ward might be a little surprised by the end product.

The latest impression of the vaunted play area shows a different design to the vibrant image revealed by the Times in 2014, which hospital officials described as a mix between Scitech and AQWA at the time.

A JHC spokeswoman clarified the initial release was an artists impression only.

While the fish tank looks much smaller in the latest image, the spokeswoman said it would be bigger than it appears.

“The size of the fish tank has actually increased the height by 500mm from the original ‘real’ design,” she said.

“The weight limitations of the floor and location dictated the final size of the tank that is now in-situ.

“It should be filled with fish by the end of April.”

The aquarium was lifted by crane into the near $15 million project last week.

Officials have said it is on track to be completed by the middle of this year.
