Joondalup: man fined for drunken tirade aboard train

Mark DonaldsonJoondalup Times

A YOUNG man was so drunk he couldn’t remember abusing transit officers at Joondalup train station until he was shown CCTV footage of the incident.

Brendan Scott Stafford was fined $1000 in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Friday after pleading guilty to two counts of obstructing a public officer.

It was seemingly a big day out for Stafford and acquaintance Connor Alex Bailey who was fined in court last year over the incident and also claimed he couldn’t remember it.

The court heard Stafford had been on a wine tour on August 5 last year and began swearing at passengers when he returned on the train about 3.50pm.

The PTA prosecutor said Stafford abused transit officers who asked him to stop swearing and pushed an officer who attempted to restrain him.

Stafford’s duty lawyer said he was “very intoxicated” and had no recollection until he saw the CCTV footage.

Magistrate Deen Potter admonished Stafford for the behaviour.

“Swearing at people on the train is disturbing,” he said.
