Joondalup: marine engineering tender awarded

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

JOONDALUP councillors have accepted a tender for marine engineering consultancy services for City projects such as the Ocean Reef Marina.

At last week’s meeting, M P Rogers and Associates was awarded the contract for three years, with an option to extend the contract for another two years, at a cost of $166,560.

The City previously had a panel contract for the combined services of marine, civil and structural engineering, which included M P Rogers and Associates, but this tender is for marine only.

“The requirement for civil and structural engineering consultancy services is low and suitable consultants will be sourced on a quotation basis,” a council document said.

Though M P Rogers and Associates was not the cheapest tender, the document said “the level of expertise, knowledge and technical data held by M P Rogers and Associates with regards to the City’s coastline means they can provide a more efficient and cost-effective service”.

“The appointment of a different consultant to this contract would likely result in additional cost to the City as the consultant would need to review the vast amount of work that has previously been completed, particularly on the City’s large ongoing projects such as the Ocean Reef Marina Project, which has been in progress since 2008. In 2015-16 alone, this constituted approximately 1025 hours of work.”

As well as the Ocean Reef Marina, the consultancy services will include coastal hazard and risk management planning, and cafes, kiosks and restaurants.
