Joondalup mums share 10 years of joy and challenges together

MEMBERS of a Joondalup mothers group are celebrating 10 years of friendship and support.

Currambine mother Justine O’Malley said the group was established by child health nurses at Joondalup Family Centre, with the eight mums and their newborn babies meeting weekly.

“As the babies grew, we continued to meet once a week and share the joys and challenges of first-time motherhood,” she said.

“The children moved into their toddler years and some of the mums returned to work, so we kept in touch via email and social media and caught up every couple of months.

“Over the past few years, we have enjoyed holidays together as a group and the number of children has grown from eight to 15.”

The mums and children celebrated the group’s 10th anniversary at a Currambine restaurant recently.

Ms O’Malley said they had created a great support network for each other and long-lasting friendships, and encouraged others to join a mothers group.

“Both the mums and the children have developed a special bond,” she said.

“This group gave me an opportunity to connect with other parents who were experiencing the same things at the same time.

“I look forward to sharing many more milestones over the years with this special group.”

The mums will also share their first child-free holiday together with a weekend cruise in December.
