JOONDALUP Primary School students cycled, scootered or stepped to school on Friday for its 10th annual Walk or Ride to School Day.

Students and parents gathered at three meeting places so teachers could guide them to school.

The kids arrived to apples and watermelon before those who came by bike or scooter took part in a ride around the school, joined by principal Russell Hahn.

“It’s a great opportunity for the community to come together on the way to school and we get the chance to teach the kids some road rules, how to be sensible on the road and the importance of wearing a helmet too,” Mr Hahn said.

“It was fantastic to see all the mums and dads that supported the initiative this year.

“The majority of our 470 students participated in the walk or ride to school and the ride around the school.

“It’s always a real buzz for everyone riding around the school together and we hope our numbers continue to grow each year.”

Burns Beach MLA Mark Folkard also joined the school for the presentation of a $300 bike, which he donated, with one lucky family drawn out of a hat to win the prize.
