Joondalup Tafe students plan Anchor Up fundraiser for Lionheart Camp for Kids

Staff WriterJoondalup Times

HEARTFELT connections to a charity have motivated four North Metropolitan Tafe students to plan an event to support Lionheart Camp for Kids.

The Joondalup campus team will be staging ‘Anchor Up’, a nautical-themed cocktail evening on the Crystal Swan on Sunday, November 18 between 3.30pm and 8pm.

The night is to help raise awareness and funds for children and families who attend the charity’s camps.

Janel Went, Laura Coombes, Morgan Cawthorne and Teylar Begley formed Roaring Events to stage the fundraiser as part of their diploma of event management course.

The team started the semester with nothing in their bank account, so they had to gain sponsorship and take part in fundraising activities in order to put this event on.

All team members previously have dealt with losing a loved one at a young age and wanted to help children that were going through the same grieving process.

The charity holds camps for children aged five to 12 to support them and show them how to grieve after the death of a parent, primary care giver or sibling.

“I am excited to be on this journey with this amazing team in their last stages of their course and I can’t wait to see this event come together,” Lionheart founder Shelly Skinner said.
