Kallaroo student wins Joondalup’s 2018 Banners in the Terrace competition

KALLAROO student Alecia Pretorious will soon have her artwork flying high in Perth city.

The Year 6 student from Springfield Primary School won the City of Joondalup’s 2018 Banners in the Terrace competition as part of Local Government Week celebrations.

This year primary and high school students were asked to enter designs based on the theme of Ready and Relevant or to create a design to represent the City, with 55 entries received.

Judges described Pretorious’s artwork as “bright and bold with strong use of colour and lines”.

It will now be transferred to a 3.4m by 1.5m banner to fly in St Georges Terrace alongside up to 80 other WA local government banners from July 22 to 28.

Runner-up was Poseidon Primary School student Kaylee McAndrew and third was Kinross student Cerys Sandham.

It is the first time in four years the award has gone to someone other than former Warwick Senior High School student Han Nguyen, who won the competition in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
