STUDENTS from schools in Kingsley and Woodvale are taking over the airwaves.

The Halidon and North Woodvale primary school students will host a two-hour program on community radio station 89.7FM on Wednesday from noon to 2pm, broadcast live from Halidon.

It is part of presenter John Logan’s School of Thought program, which he launched three years ago and enables children to research stories, organise interviews, script material and host their own radio show.

Mr Logan said he would keep a distance while the students ran the program.

“Producing and then presenting a two-hour radio show as an outdoor broadcast is a challenge for the best in the radio business but I’m confident the students will pleasantly surprise our listeners,” he said.

“I’ll keep an eye and ear on the kids during the broadcast but the kids are doing their homework on what’s required for the broadcast and they’ve got tons of talent.”
