A YOUNG man is in an induced coma in hospital after the vehicle he was driving hit a tree, rolled over a median strip and into oncoming traffic in Kingsley this morning.

The 20-year-old driver was travelling on Whitfords Avenue when he lost control about 7.10am.

Investigating officer Neil Stimpson alleged the high-powered sedan was travelling at high speed, before it crashed in wet conditions.

He said it struck a tree causing the car to roll onto the other side of the road.

The vehicle struck a trailer being towed by a car that was driving past at the time.

Sen-Const Stimpson said the trailer was destroyed, but there was no damage to the vehicle or injuries to the other driver.

Another car also drove past as the crash happened, with Sen-Const Stimpson saying it escaped serious damage by a small margin.

“It (the out-of-control car) just clipped the hubcap of another car, the driver was very lucky,” he said.

He is in a critical but stable condition in Royal Perth Hospital.
