THREE local apprentices were acknowledged at the annual Hospitality Group Training Awards at RAC Arena last week.

Kinross resident Alanah Fischer, who works at Pan Pacific Perth, and Greenwood’s Zachery Tholen, who works at The Shorehouse, were joint winners for the Most Outstanding 2nd Year Apprentice award.

Mr Tholen also received the Ambassador Award, and Carramar resident Naomi Velterop was named the School Apprentice of the Year for her work at Sorrento’s White Salt.

HGT general manager Iain McDougall said the awards highlighted the importance of apprentice chefs in the workforce and applauded the efforts of employers who are willing to take on apprentice chefs and launch their careers.

“HGT employs over 100 apprentices and trainees who are currently working in hospitality venues throughout Perth and regional WA,” he said.

“We want people to know if they’re deciding on a career path or thinking about a sea-change, hospitality is a great and rewarding career option.”
