TWO elite sports athletes inspired more than 120 people from the Lake Joondalup Baptist College community at a recent breakfast.

The annual Parents and Collegians Auxiliary community breakfast hosted professional basketball player and Olympian Damian Martin and Mhicca Carter from Australia’s national women’s rugby union team, the Wallaroos.

Carter told guests she had learnt it was important to know your goal, stick to the process and to continue even after adversity when she broke her leg and was out of action for six months. She then took a tour of the school’s primary classes and encouraged young girls to play rugby.

Martin talked about not cutting others down but encouraging others to help them reach their goals.

He spoke about the perspective he received when his dad was diagnosed with cancer, the disappointment he had when he did no make the Olympic team but then the joy of making it four years later.

The event also included background music from Ethan Churchill and an art display from former students Jaimie Bartlett and Tylor Mollard.
