FIREFIGHTERS have brought a bush fire on the edge of Lake Joondalup under control.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said a triple zero call was received about 11.35am today about the fire on the Wanneroo side of the lake.

“Eight crews attended from the bush fire brigades and career stations as well; also the City of Wanneroo attended and Department of Parks and Wildlife,” she said.

“It was brought under control at 1.24pm.

“They are still there – they are extinguishing it at the moment.”

The spokeswoman said the fire burnt through about 1ha of bushland and was not near any houses or other buildings.

Reader Gary Tate spotted the fire from the Joondalup side of the lake this morning.

“The fire was behind the pine plantation near the edge of Lake Joondalup,” he said.

“Fortunately the wind was blowing the fire and embers towards the lake and not the housing estate on the other side of Wanneroo Road.”
