LAKESIDE Joondalup Shopping Centre and Joondalup Station are the most popular drop off points for northern suburbs residents using a ride sharing company.
Uber identified the sites among its top five drop off spots for riders based on riders’ use of the service over the past three years.
Other popular sites include Currambine Shopping Centre, Joondalup Resort and Hillarys Boat Harbour.
“It is often assumed Uber is only used in and around the city, but that’s no longer the case,” WA general manager Tom White said.
“We’ve seen a growing number of Joondalup locals embrace Uber to get safe, reliable and affordable rides around town.
“We know fast pick-up times and reliability are really important to our riders, and we’ve worked hard to get average wait times down to just four minutes in Joondalup in 2017.”
Heathridge resident Glyn Jackson is one of about 1000 drivers who live around Joondalup and joined the company about six months ago when he could not find fulltime employment.
“It seemed like a good idea and I didn’t realise it could be so much fun,” he said.
“You meet so many people; it’s great. Everyone has got a story.
“You never know where you are going to go; I’ve been as far as Mandurah and as far north as Yanchep.”According to the company, the busiest hour of the week is between midnight and 1am on Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
During the week, travel is busiest from 7-8am and 5-6pm, with many riders using the service to connect to public transport.
