OLDER residents who would like to try a low intensity form of Zumba can take part in free classes next week.
Instructor Jane Jones of Butler will hold Zumba Gold trial classes at the Fleur Freame Pavillion in Padbury at 9.30am on August 5 and Black Swan Dance Company in Jindalee at 9.30am on August 1.
She said the classes were created for the “older active adult” by the founder of Zumba and to women in their mid-60s.
“Participants range from 40 to 80 years young and enjoy a variety of rhythms such as salsa, merengue, disco, swing and bollywood for a low intensity, full body workout,” she said.
“It is a non-intimidating class full of women of all shapes and sizes, some co-ordinated, some not, but all having a wonderful time together.
“There are women from all walks of life who have had to deal with stress, cancer, divorce, being widowed and various medical conditions; there are many physiological and psychological benefits to be gained from the class.
“It is an hour of fun and friendship where you can forget your troubles.”
Ms Jones also runs weekly classes at the Currambine Community Centre at 9.30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9am on Saturdays and at Butler Community Centre at 9.30am on Wednesdays.
Classes will also continue in Padbury every Friday and Jindalee every Monday.
Cost is $10 per class, with the first class free.
