THE Magic of Motown is coming to Joondalup next month.
North Metropolitan TAFE event management students Dee Vesey, Ella Turner, Gemma Skillen and Jo McCrory have come together as Funktional Events to create the charity fundraising event.
Ms McCrory said the event would be “reminiscent of the beginnings of the Motown era”.
“It will bring people together through an evening of soulful music, delicious food and fabulous entertainment to raise money for a great cause,” she said.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to Joondalup charity Youth Futures WA to support at-risk and disadvantaged young people and to help provide accommodation, support and alternative education programs to kids in the local area.
The Magic of Motown will be held on June 9 at the TAFE campus from 7pm to 11pm.
Tickets are $80 including canaps on arrival, a sit-down meal and dessert, drinks and entertainment from a DJ, dancers and R&B/soul group The Merindas.
There will also be a raffle and silent auction.

Organising the event is part of the students’ studies.
“We started with a zero budget and it is our responsibility to fundraise, attract sponsors and donations and plan the entire event process,” Ms McCrory said.
As part of this, the students have partnered with Trades North students to create the props.
