Man charged over suspected Western Power corruption

A MAN has been charged as part of an investigation into suspected corruption at Western Power.

Financial Crimes Squad detectives conducted a search warrant at a Bassendean business and a residential property in Iluka on Thursday morning.

A 55-year-old man linked to the two properties was arrested by detectives at Perth International Airport after he returned from an overseas flight that evening.

Police said the man was not a Western Power employee.

It will be alleged the man had a personal relationship with the Western Power employee who has already been charged as part of this investigation.

Police will allege that through that relationship, the business he is associated with financially benefited from the tender or contract arrangements that were facilitated.

The 55-year-old man from Iluka has been charged with 26 counts of acting corruptly in the performance/discharge of functions and one count of attempted corruption.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.
