Mater Dei College student to take part in National Schools Constitutional Convention in Canberra

AN Edgewater student is one of 120 young people selected to take part in a national convention this week.

Mater Dei College Year 12 student Ciana Martinus is travelling to Canberra for the National Schools Constitutional Convention at The Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.

The years 11 and 12 students will tackle the topic of Indigenous Australians and the Constitution, hearing from a panel of experts, taking part in group discussions and then participating in a mock referendum.

Ciana was chosen from more than 4000 Australian students and said she was looking forward to the experience.

“I feel so honoured to be given an opportunity to learn and discuss current and past issues facing Australia,” she said.

“I am hoping to learn about the Constitution of Australia and how it interacts and relates to our society.”
