THE Federal Government is being called on to contribute to the planned upgrade of Sorrento Surf Lifesaving Club.
In a speech made in Parliament, Moore MHR Ian Goodenough said he would work with all three levels of government and the private sector to secure the necessary funding and corporate sponsorship to upgrade the club.
The proposed renovation is estimated to cost $8 million, increasing the clubhouse by 789sq m and the external area by 488sq m to include a courtyard, deck and wash-down area.
Sorrento SLSC has developed the concept plan for the renovation, which will provide the facilities to accommodate its growing membership of 1768 members, including a junior base of 640 nippers.
“As a patron of the Sorrento SLSC, it is important the club’s facilities can adequately meet the needs of current and future members and support the development of junior and youth members,” Mr Goodenough said.
“I intend to make securing this funding in the next Federal budget cycle a priority as it’s an important project that will benefit many in our local community.”
