CITY of Joondalup is looking for more volunteers to take part in its Seniors Smart Travel Program.
Unfamiliarity with Perth’s train and bus systems can often be a barrier for older people using public transport.
Volunteers like Gwenyth Greer are helping to improve this in the northern corridor, providing travellers with one-on-one help.
Advice can be as simple as how to buy a ticket or use a Smartrider card, when and where to catch a connecting service or if there are toilet facilities at certain stations.
The program is run in conjunction with the cities of Stirling and Wanneroo and funded by the State Government.
The Public Transport Authority is hosting a training session for prospective volunteers on Tuesday, November 7.
People need to have some experience using public transport, be able to walk 500m to 1km and use a computer or mobile device.
