AN alternative method will be used for the works to duplicate part of Ocean Reef Road.
Last month, Joondalup councillors voted to accept the $2.68 million alternative tender from Ertech to carry out the works from Oceanside Promenade to Marmion Avenue.
Tenders were open from August 12 to September 2 and 15 submissions were received. Infrastructure services director Nico Claassen said the alternative tender proposed to open-cut the dual road rather than perform directional drilling of some underground services.
“It’s quite a good proposal and it’s saving money,” he said.
The project was budgeted at $4.34 million, with $2.9 million funded from a Metropolitan Regional Road Group Improvement Grant.
“The City is currently in discussions with Main Roads WA seeking approval to extend the project to include the roundabout at Ocean Reef Road/Oceanside Promenade and to extend the dualling of Ocean Reef Road towards the Swanson Way roundabout,” a council document said.
Mr Claassen said funding for the additional work was not budgeted for but it would need to be done before the construction of Ocean Reef Marina.
