A NEW artwork has popped up on Joondalup Library this week.

Sarah Elson’s Hymenosporum, After the Seeds are Shed, 2019 is the latest artwork to feature on the City of Joondalup’s Inside-Out Billboard.

The original artwork was a small cast metal brooch which has been photographed and enlarged to 6m by 3m.

The canvas will be displayed on the library for the next six months.

Elson’s work examines both the nature of preciousness and the preciousness of nature.

She is a metalsmith and a mother and her works are always underpinned by her passions for feminism and the environment.

Elson’s small-scale artworks will also be on display in the Joondalup Art Gallery until April 12 as part of the group Adorn exhibition.

Mayor Albert Jacob said the City’s billboard program aimed to inspire the community and “add some creativity to our built environment”.

A previous Inside-Out Billboard commission by contemporary artist Andy Quilty, from his Burnout Series, 2016 (featured on the Joondalup Library in 2017) was also recently installed on the Joondalup Courthouse billboard as part of a rotation of artworks.
