New floodlights proposed for Emerald Park

Tyler BrownJoondalup Times

THE City of Joondalup is seeking feedback on a proposal to upgrade the sports floodlighting at Emerald Park in Edgewater.

The proposal includes removing existing floodlights and installing new poles up to 35m tall.

According to the City’s website, the existing floodlighting comprises older lights that do not meet Australian standards and are not suitable for competition games.

The new floodlighting would meet the standards for all codes of amateur football.

They would also be aimed more directly on to the main playing areas to reduce light spill to nearby residences.

Depending on the budget, the City may also consider more floodlighting levels designed to meet Cricket Australia guidelines to allow for ‘class III’ night cricket matches.

It is also proposed to install four smaller towers at the cricket practice nets.

Submissions can be made at www.joondalup.wa.gov.au until June 28.

The results will then be presented to the council and if supported, the works would take place in 2020-21.
