Ocean Reef Marina jetty fire a suspected arson attack

UPDATE, September 26, 3.30pm: Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob has confirmed about 20m of the southern jetty at Ocean Reef Marina was destroyed by fire on Monday night.

He said said the public would not be able to access the jetty until the “significant repair work has been undertaken”.

“At this stage, the City is awaiting quotes for carrying out the necessary repairs,” he said.

“However, it is hoped once the damaged section of jetty is removed, buoyancy tanks will provide part access to the jetty while the City’s contractors source materials to repair the entire structure.”

September 25, 10.15am: THERE was a suspected arson attack at Ocean Reef Marina last night causing an estimated $40,000 of damage.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the fire at the southern jetty was reported at 10.26pm.

Four fire crews from Joondalup and Duncraig attended and the fire was extinguished by 10.59pm.

Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue Group has warned marina ramp users to take care because there may be debris floating in the harbour.
