THE State Opposition has attempted to steal the march on the development of the Ocean Reef Marina, today pledging $40million to the project.

Labor leader Mark McGowan said if he won power on March 11, the $40 million would be spent over four years to drive the project he claimed had been neglected since proposed under a Labor Government in 2004.

He said the environmental process had only just started.

He said the marina would provide about 600 boat pens and additional boat stackers and associated trailer parking to address demand for boating infrastructure in the northern suburbs.

A range of housing options would be developed as part of the project.

“We have a unique opportunity here in Ocean Reef to develop a world-class tourism and recreational facility that maximises our natural environment,” Mr McGowan said.
