Ocean Reef student wins WA Information Technology and Telecommunications Alliance Award

OCEAN Reef resident Stefan Prandl has been recognised for his studies in information security.

The Curtin University PhD Student won the Tertiary Student of the Year at the 2017 WA Information Technology and Telecommunications Alliance INCITE Awards.

As part of his PhD project, while investigating statistical processes for use in information security, Mr Prandl created Power Law.

“This is a denial of service detection method based on power law probability,” the awards website said.

“The distribution allows users to detect denial of service attacks quickly and accurately with low overhead and no specialised hardware and without needing an Internet or ISP based partner to analyse traffic.”
