Oliver and Olivia baby name favourites for WA

PARENTS in Two Rocks and Ellenbrook were among those to choose popular baby names Oliver and Olivia last year.

The WA Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages has revealed the names topped the lists of names chosen for boys and girls born in 2015.

Community News photographers snapped Jazmina and Brendan Chamberlain, of Two Rocks, with baby Oliver at Joondalup Health Campus last October, and Ellenbrook's Shayne Cooke with baby Olivia in April.

Attorney General Michael Mischin said the annual list of baby names revealed trends from previous years were continuing to influence choices made by parents across the State.

"With 248 boys being named Oliver in 2015, it has been a popular choice for the past few years, holding top spot in 2014 and second place in 2013," he said.

�Olivia again claimed the number one spot, with 206 baby girls bearing that name, the same position it occupied in 2013 before dropping to fourth in 2014.

"State-wide, the top five boys" names were Oliver, Jack, James, Noah and William, while for the girls it was Olivia, Ava, Charlotte, Mia and Isla.�

New entries to the top 10 WA baby names list are Mason, Lachlan and Ruby, which have come at the expense of Lucas, Jacob, Emily and Ella.

While Emily topped 2014�s list, it fell to 12th place in 2015. Jacob dropped from 10th place in 2014 to 20th place last year.

Overall in 2015, births were down by 260 to 35,335, deaths were up by 665 to 14,705 and marriages were down by 520 to 12,766
