SORRENTO resident Gabriella Munro is appearing in a raucous, romantic and melodic spin on the Hans Christian Andersen classic The Princess and the Pea.

Presented by Laughing Horse Productions and directed by Adam Salathiel, Once Upon A Mattress is a musical comedy adaptation by Mary Rodgers and Marshall Barer.

It’s the story of a lonely mummy’s boy prince and an overbearing queen hell-bent on protecting her son and kingdom.

With time working against some of the ladies in waiting, Sir Harry must scour the land looking for the last remaining princess to marry the prince.

Munro plays the fun-loving, witty and cheeky Jester.

“Overall, she wants to have a good laugh and make other people laugh along as well,” she said.“The Jester loves to goof around with the King and the Minstrel and create mischief wherever they go in the kingdom.

“When friends need help, she’s not afraid to step up to the challenge and will help in any way possible.

“She enjoys doing what jesters do best – creating happiness.”

Munro said she loved the twist the show has created on a classic fairytale.

“It’s not something you would expect and it surprised me and I know it will surprise the audience too,” she said.

Once Upon A Mattress plays at The Koorliny Arts Centre from 7pm on April 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and from 1pm on April 8, 15, 22.
