AN art deco inspired costume earned Mullaloo fashion student Nicola Yeung an award at the Perth Fashion Festival.

The aspiring fashion designer and South Metropolitan Tafe student won the costume category at the Future Runway event.

Ms Yeung said theatre, structure, architecture and art deco were the inspiration for her design.

“The majority of my garment was constructed using boning reinforced with leftover/recycled steel wire,” she said.

“The aim was to achieve a linear effect and to reflect the structure of art deco architecture.”

She said her career ambition was have her own successful fashion label and had always been drawn to the industry.

“Fashion design is all I’ve ever wanted to do as a kid,” she said.

“I enjoy the creative side, the meticulous detail and the accuracy of patternmaking.”
