TWO men have been fined for causing “smoke or excessive noise” while driving.

Appearing in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Friday via video link from Acacia Prison, Jed Peter Lowry pleaded guilty to the charge issued in Butler on May 27.

The police prosecutor said at 6.40pm Mr Lowry used his rear wheels to create excessive screeching of his tyres and excessive engine noises.

Duty lawyer Andrew Parker said Mr Lowry had been “caught behind another vehicle when the traffic light went amber and as he put it he ‘put a bit of squirt behind it’”.

Mr Parker said as a P-plate driver, Mr Lowry was aware he would lose his licence and he would have to sit his licence test again.

He said the incident was “relatively standard for this offence”.

Magistrate Thomas Hall issued a fine of $500 and court costs of $205.30.

Also due in Joondalup court on Friday for causing excessive noise while driving was Seth James Allan Blachford, who did not appear.

The prosecutor said Mr Blachford, who has no prior record, was stopped at a red traffic light in Joondalup on April 13 when he “pulled away at speed” causing the wheels to spin.

A police vehicle was nearby and stopped Mr Blachford, where he also recorded a blood alcohol reading in excess of 0.08 and his licence was immediately disqualified.

Mr Hall issued a $750 fine and court costs of $205.30 for the drink driving and disqualified his licence for nine months, effective from April 13.

Mr Blachford was also charged $500 for driving a vehicle to cause excessive noise.
