PLANS for a two-storey specialty centre in Iluka have been announced.

Dubbed Iluka Plaza, the AGEM Property Group development will have a mix of national and local tenancies on the corner of Burns Beach Road and O’Mara Boulevard.

This follows Friday’s approval of a Brightwater retirement village on the southern part of the site.

“We have identified another opportunity in the market to satisfy the need for local amenities – something the residents have been waiting in anticipation for,” AGEM Property Group managing director Adrian Fiore said.

“Early signs of strong tenant interest confirms our concept and strategy.”

He said as the coastal communities of Iluka and Burns Beach continued to grow, a local retail and food precinct had been identified as a requirement “to assist with the daily needs of residents whose current alternative is commuting to neighbourhood centres in surrounding suburbs”.

Designed by DMG Architecture, the “community-feel” development is also expected to generate local employment opportunities.
