MORE: Greenwood: former students remember a teacher with a heart of gold

POLICE have released the name of a man who died at Greenwood station last week after falling on to the tracks.

David Allan Collins (69) was a Greenwood resident and former teacher at Halidon Primary School in Kingsley.

Principal Helen Demiris said he was a long serving and respected member of the school community.

“We are deeply saddened by his passing and express our condolences to his family,” she said.

A reader told the Times Mr Collins was a “much loved teacher” and an “absolutely lovely man”.

Multiple comments posted on the Rate My Teachers website in 2010 described Mr Collins as “the best teacher”.

“One of the best primary school teachers I have ever had, he helped me through the whole year,” one student said.

Transperth spokesman David Hynes said the accident happened after 10am on Friday.

“He was riding a motorised bicycle, appeared to lose control on the platform and fell into the path of an oncoming train,” he said.

The Office of Rail Safety, Australian Transport Safety Bureau and Public Transport Authority will investigate.
